OLDER ADULTS

Founded in 2011 by Saskia Heriz and Christina Thompson with the support of South East Dance, Three Score Dance brings movement to life for older adults in Brighton & Hove and beyond.

Inspired by The Company of Elders at Sadler’s Wells and the trailblazing choreography of Pina Bausch, we’ve built a space where older women and men express themselves through contemporary dance.

Our performances tell stories that captivate new audiences, while our workshops welcome those who never thought they could dance to discover the joy of movement.

Working with world-class choreographers, we continue to grow a vibrant, creative community.

HOW WE ARE RUN

Three Score Dance is proud to be a Charitable Incorporated Organisation (CIO), guided by a dedicated Board of Trustees who oversee our finances, artistic direction, and participation policies.

Our daily operations are managed by a team that includes our Classes Administrator, Producer/Company Manager, and the leadership of Artistic Director Jason Keenan-Smith and Executive Director Kyla Booth-Lucking.

We’re deeply grateful to our Company members, who generously volunteer their time and skills to keep Three Score Dance running smoothly.

Whether it’s Julian updating our website, the Club Nights Committee organising events, or Michael capturing our work through his beautiful illustrations, their contributions make all the difference.

JASON KEENAN-SMITH

ARTISTIC DIRECTOR

For over 23 years, Jason has shared his love for dance on stages across the world.

As a performer, he's brought stories to life with renowned companies like English National Opera, The Featherstonehaughs, Protein Dance, and Siobhan Davies Dance Company, among others. His choreographic work has graced venues such as The Gate Theatre and The Place, and he's collaborated with Three Score Dance and international organisations like Getty Images.

As a Senior Lecturer in Dance at the University of Chichester, Jason continues to inspire dancers of all ages and abilities, both nationally and internationally. His teaching extends beyond the studio, as he also holds a background in Dance Movement Psychotherapy, deepening his understanding of the emotional power of movement.

Whether on stage or in the classroom, Jason’s passion for dance is contagious, making it accessible to all.

Currently, Kyla serves as Director of Programming and Participation at Brighton Dome.

In addition to her role at Three Score Dance, Kyla leads her own dance producing and consulting company, Clearcut, through which she supports Three Score Dance as Executive Director.

Kyla shares, “Three Score Dance constantly challenges and inspires me. There’s always a fresh idea and an incredible amount of passion from the dancers in our classes and workshops. One of my favourite moments is walking by the studio and seeing the dancers immersed in rehearsal.

SUPPORT US

Growing older is often sadly a pathway to loneliness, depression, poverty and ill-health. Combined with ageism, many older people feel abandoned, invisible, irrelevant and underestimated.

We believe dance is an antidote – bringing older people together, liberating their creativity and aspirations, improving mental and physical health.

As pioneers of older people’s place in contemporary dance we defy negative and limiting preconceptions of ageing.

As a registered charity our main beneficiaries are our 486 dance participants, currently spanning an age range of 55 to 84.

  • We also provide employment opportunities for over 28 dance teachers and creatives a year

  • In 2023 over 1,500 people watched our 6 performances

  • Our classes and outreach sessions are supported by 25 peer volunteers

Everything we do is informed by our community of people aged over 55 including our Board of Trustees.

I never dreamt that the age I am, I found … the sheer joy that dance could bring.”
